How this began

Bloged in Life, Generally by Mel Saturday July 2, 2005

I’ve always wanted to publish my own website.  Never got round to it.

Then on 22nd day of May 2005, as Joyce was reading a Sunday Times’ article on Singapore’s first Bloggers Convention, she asked why I didn’t start one myself.  I asked her why I should.

“Because you’re also a geek”.  (Thanks).

And that set the drive to publish a blog inexorably in motion.  What you see is the product arising from that exchange.

I hope that this journal will, above all, be a reasonable attempt to make sense of my Christian faith in our world.  I’ve come to realise - hopefully not belatedly - that life is far too complex for me to (much as I’d like) paper over it’s difficulties with trite answers.  I hope in this journal to give an honest account about my personal struggles with the Christian faith, and to record and celebrate in it the little victories that come along.

It has also been my desire as a Christian to remain rooted in the teachings of the Bible while living and speaking in a way that is gracious, sensitive and relevant to our post-modern world.  I hope that this journal will be a small contribution to this end.

Serious stuff aside, the fun part about a blog, I suppose, would be the therapeutic kick you get from exposing yourself to the world.  Just like how flashers in get a high out of exposing themselves in the flesh (totally inane), public journaling I guess would also appeal to the intellectual flasher in me (“intellectual” not as in smart, but mental as opposed to the physical / in the flesh).

Well, I hope what I write provokes some thought, and provides something to laugh at in our generally depressing world.
