Youth Camp 1999

Bloged in Church by Mel Wednesday June 30, 1999

After much persuasion from Joyce, and much reluctance on my part (I was offered a role in EHOC), I decided to leave Eusoff Hall - my home on campus for the past three years - at the end of his academic year (1998-99).

Having decided to leave the Hall, I channelled my energies from April to June into organising a camp for the youths in church.  The June camp was over-ambitiously aimed at reaching out to at least 100 youths in the community.  We got only about a fifth of that number, not unexpectedly, including the youths from our church.

That notwithstanding, we had a good time on Sentosa.  Sadly, the church was not able to do a good job with following up on the community youths that joined us - they spoke mostly Chinese, we did not !  Just as well that we did not get 100 attendees …

(Epilogue : This is not an entirely sad story however.  Most of the community youths that attended the camp went on to join other churches that they were more comfortable in.)
