The “One” (Part II)

Joyce asked me out to meet this evening, before we got back to Eusoff Hall.  She said she had been looking at the card I gave her, talked to her church friends about it, and wasn’t sure of what I’m trying to say.  (Surely I wasn’t that obscure ?  By her own admission, she said that her friends have told her that everything beyond a doubt pointed to the fact that I’m interested in her).

The conversation was awkward and (somehow) ended with a hug (which was also awkward since I don’t recall the last time I hugged my mother or grandmother).

Anyway, despite all the blundering, as of now, we are (somehow) attached.

The “One” (Part I)

0100 hours.  Joyce and I have just returned from a murtabak supper (where I surprised her by remembering her birthday) after the Eusoff Hall pre-Dinner & Dance bash at Sunset Bay.  I’m sitting in my room wondering if I should tell Joyce if I’m interested in her in a more-than-just-friends way.

A birthday gift and the raw materials to make a nice card are ready.  Bought them over a week ago.  Just a question of what I do with them.

Is Joyce "the One" ?  For pretty much of my life I’ve asked God for "the One".

Heck, I’m pretty sure she’s not-not the One.  So I’ll come up with a card that makes my I’m-interested-in-you-in-a-more-than-just-friends intention clear.

0400 hours.  I slip the card and gift under her door.

0900 hours.  Joyce gets up.  She comes to my room to thank me for the gift.  Then what does she do ?  She invites me and her other male classmate for a birthday lunch at Seah Street Deli.  What’s this supposed to mean ?
